Jellua Shampoo & Conditioner Review - Squid Ink for Your Hair

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

That's right people, I said Squid Ink.  Let me say that again.  Squid.  Ink.  For your hair.  Weird, huh?  Ever the brave beauty trier-outer, I went for it!

Okay, actually my stylist tried it on me first.  Seeing as most fancy shampoos are around $20 or more, I couldn't afford getting my hair did and some new fancy shampoo.  But my hair stayed soft for t h r e e  d a y s.  Pretty awesome right?  Naturally, I was sold.  I was hoping that my local Ulta would carry Jellua, but I think it's a newer brand so I had to locate a salon through their website.  I found a salon close to my work and picked up this little beauty!

One thing I didn't realize right away is that the bottle is not actually that purpleish color.  It's transparent pearl.  So when you squirt some shampoo into your hand, it's a rather unsightly color.  Okay, it's basically black.  You might be thinking black shampoo should only be good on brunettes, but BFF Google tells me that it doesn't have the slightest effect on your color, even if you're blonde.  It DOES, however, smell amazing and work small miracles on your hair.  Yeah.  That's how awesome it is.  Like Jesus in a bottle.

I did also pick up a super mini conditioner bottle, because you know, I couldn't afford $20 shampoo AND $20 conditioner.  However my stylist did let me know that you only have to use a tiny bit of the conditioner so it should last me a while anyway.  The conditioner is probably the worse looking of the two, because it's a creamy greenish black, and it looks like shrimp poop.  But!  Do not fear my dears!  I have tested and tried them out and I freaking love Jellua.  Hubs is constantly telling me how good my hair smells.  He did that every once in a while before, but the sniffs to my hair have increased tenfold.

So, if you are looking for a new fancy shampoo and want your hair to smell and feel amazing (seriously, it really smells incredible!), definitely try out Jellua.  You won't regret it!  (Though you may want to wear a blindfold.)

  1. Any chance you can ask your stylist if this works after a Liquid Keratin treatment? I took the splurge and did the keratin- love it. But don't want to ask my new stylist if this will work after it as I bought the Jellua when I lived in a different city. And you know how stylists can be...

    1. My stylist tried to comment on this for you, but for some reason the comment won't post for her! I think you should be okay asking your stylist even if you didn't purchase from them, especially since it's because you moved.

  2. On my last visit to my stylist I noticed this wonderful new smell from the shampoo he was using on me. He smiled and said it's new, bet you are going to love it. Yep! I bought the mini trial sizes of the shampoo and conditioner.....cause it is a little expensive. First off, I was shocked to have a black liquid come out of the shampoo bottle. I'm blonde and just had highlights....hmmm, well I went for it as I trust my stylist. Ohh, that smell....so divine! Next I tried the conditioner, again blackish creme! Ick! But I have to say blonde hair still came out blonde and it was so shiny and smooth. Loved it. Only downside I can say would be that it is a little pricey.....but I'm about to go treat myself for a change and buy the big bottles. I'm sold so far.

  4. I do not love it at all. I couldn't even brush my hair after washing it. The smell was gross. And, I personally know the rep for Jellua. Andi Bruce-Millard. She is making a killing off of this product. Whatever!!! There are much better products on the market for me.

    1. Ok 1st this comment sounds a little personal. My stylist recommended this product due to a scalp condition i have. Medicated prescription shampoos are horrible on my hair and talk about expensive $30.00 for 8 oz and they dont always work. So far so good I can use the prescription stuff once or twice a week and use Jellua which smells AMAZING and leaves my hair soft for days as well. I use the shampoo and the treatment .

  5. Another possible downside...if you're squeamish about animals being killed to make your hair super-soft...The process for extracting the ink is to hunt and kill the squid.

  7. Jellua Alert! I too was introduced to the shampoo through my stylist. Bought the shampoo and conditioner. After the 3rd use, I noticed the some of my hair was falling out. I would find a piece on my face and in my hand when I rinsed the shampoo. The next time I went to my stylist she asked if I noticed anything about my hair when using the Jellua. I told her I thought that my hair was falling out! Much to my surprises she found the same thing happening to her and to another stylist in the salon. This is an expensive shampoo from Korea and who knows whats in it to cause hair loss. I'm hoping that this will not continue after discontinuing use. If not who do you notify? I do NOT recommend this product unless you like the bald look!

  8. This is the best shampoo and conditioner for my hair- just amazing! It lasts forever, so the sticker price does not mean much. I used my travel shampoo this weekend and could not even comb through my hair. I cannot live without Jellua- love it!
